[Vivika -BA in Fine Arts/Colorado College of Education. Studied with Glen Lukens at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. MA/New York State College of Ceramics. Teachers were Emmanuel Jalanovitch and Charles Harder.
Otto-Born April 20, 1915, Portland, CT, Studied at the League of New Hampshire Arts and Crafts in Concord; at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles; and at the Chouinard Art Institute. His teachers were Susan Peterson and Vivika Heino.
The Heino's settled in Ojai, California, in a house formerly owned by Beatrice Wood. They have experimented endlessly, not only with ceramic materials but also in building kilns, and with controlling the fire and atmospheric conditions in the kiln. Otto is known for his large vessels, Vivika for more delicate work and for her glazes. Both have taught at the Chouinard Art Institute and at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
The Heino's are honorary members of The International Academy of Ceramic, and Fellows of the American Craft Counsel. Otto received the Gold Medal at the Sixth International Biennial of Ceramic Arts, Vallauris, France;  and the Diplome d'Honeur from the International Academy of Ceramics, Cannes, France.- Heirlooms of the Future: Masterworks of West Coast American Designers/Craftsmen.
